Of course I love the stories but its all about the illustrations and there are none. A huge disappointment. Got a sample of the Beatrix Potter Tales, Illustrated collection by MobileReference and it had them and they come out pretty well on the Kindle.

Also, what is with the way the author name shows up as Beatrix, 1866-1932 Potter rather than Potter, Beatrix or simply Beatrix Potter.

The Pie and the Patty Pan

I absoulutly love this story! When I was really little, Beatrix Potter was one of my favorite authors, and still is. Her stories are so sweet fo little children, especially this one. This is one of my personal favorites, and I believe that you will agree when you're done with this childhood classic. Her illustrations are so cute and well done and colorful! Her whole series of books about animals are all tied together. They all know each other and are all friends. This is a great story for children, especially ones with appreciation of animals.

One Great Bible and Study tool!!!!!!!

First off using the King James version is right on, it is a word for word translation and one of the best ever. The Bible includes the full king jams text, a presentation page, ton's of Notes from DR Henry M. Morris, many which clarify the text and others of a scientific nature. There are also sections in the appendix for the authenticity of the Biblical text; The Creation Vs. evolution debate as world views and where they lead; The logic behind Biblical creationism; A Historic Outline of the genesis; Explanation of scientific evidence proving recent Creation; Proof of the universality of the great flood; A listing of Bible believing Scientists; and many other help; As well as a concordance. This is a great Bible Version, A Great Study bible and also can be a great help in Apologetics (reaching the lost). I would Highly recommend this Bible.

Best Study Bible PERIOD

IMHO this is the best study Bible available in English and has been since it superseded the earlier edition and previous best study Bible The Defender's Study Bible. How can I make such a claim? Allow me to illustrate.

KJV: To start with it uses the standard King James Version as the basic text. There is a reason that the overwhelming majority of people who make accuracy of translation their highest priority choose the KJV: a disagreement over textual criticism: the methods used to arrive at the correct text from a collection of hand-written copies, including both scribal errors and (possibly) deliberate changes. Up through the KJV, the underlying principle was "majority rules", that is all things being equal, the reading that is the most common is the most likely to be correct. However, virtually all post-KJV translations have used a different underlying principle: "age before beauty", that is assuming that a handful of older by a century manuscripts rediscovered beginning in the 18th century contain the correct readings even though they represent only about 5% of the total and appear by internal evidence to all have been copies of copies descended from the same original source. The problem is that if this assumption is wrong (and there are excellent reasons for believing it to be wrong), all such versions are introducing more errors than they correct while after nearly 400 years the errors in the KJV have pretty much all been caught and either corrected or footnoted in modern editions. Since the total differences in the NT versions amount to no more than 5% and (arguably) change no major doctrines of Christianity, one might be tempted to dismiss this as Yet Another argument about the number of angels who can dance on the head of a pin, but conservatives point with some justification to the occasionally dishonest footnotes in some modern versions which falsely assert "majority rules" for what are in fact minority readings and call into question by enclosing within brackets text that there is no rational reason for questioning.

ANNOTATIONS: This still leaves a wall full of KJV study Bibles; what separates this one from the pack are the over 9,000 footnotes that, according to the Introduction, "explain the Bible's difficult passages, resolve its alleged contradictions, point out the evidences of its divine origin, confirm its historical accuracy, note its remarkable anticipations of modern science, demonstrate its fulfilled prophecies, and in general remove any doubts about its inerrancy, its authority, and its ability to meet every human need."

What makes them particularly useful is that they are printed directly below the text in question, putting the defense of so-called Biblical "mistakes" within easy reach of anyone looking them up. Of course no claims of divine inspiration are made for these works of man, but they do represent the culmination of many years of careful research.

Despite years of Bible study, I was frankly astonished by how much I learned from reading these notes, especially things present right in the text all along that I had somehow missed. For example, one of the minor but by no means insignificant claims of a Biblical mistake is in Gen 9:13-16 where God supposedly first puts the rainbow into the sky as a token of His promise never to destroy the Earth again with a flood. Well, this is OBVIOUS nonsense because, as we now know, the conditions for producing a rainbow occur quite frequently after a rain so that the only way this verse could possibly be true is if it had never rained before the Flood.

Funny how I had never really noticed Gen 2:5-6 before: "...for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth... But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground."

Other notes explain how this could have worked, based on a scientific explanation of what the "waters which were above the firmament" of Gen 1:7 were and what their effects would be and how the mechanism of the Flood would work, but the interesting thing to me is that if you assume that some ancient just made it all up, how did he know that it was necessary to claim that it had never rained prior to the Flood for the story to work? Which is more plausible to you? An unsung ancient Isaac Asimov? Or just some Bozo writing down what he observed without necessarily fully understanding it?

INTRODUCTIONS: In addition to the annotations each testament and each individual book of the Bible have introductions addressing more general questions. One of the most interesting to me was the introduction to Genesis. Liberal Bible scholars almost universally insist that Moses was not the actual author of Genesis, and this introduction agrees but not in the way that liberals mean it. Again the evidence was in the text in plain sight all along in the form of the recurring phrase "These are the generations of..." followed by a name. Parallels with the terminology of ancient Babylonian tablets indicate that these names are actually the signatures of the original writers as the tablets were being passed down to the next author, and whenever Genesis is referenced in the New Testament, Moses is NEVER claimed as the author, unlike the case with references to the other four books of the Pentateuch, which often claim Moses as the author. This makes sense because Genesis records alleged history long prior to Moses' lifetime while Moses was a direct participant in the events of the following books. So the text of Genesis itself claims it to be composed of the assembled writings of Adam, Noah, the three sons of Noah, Shem, Terah, Isaac, Jacob, and Esau, with the final section being based on information from "the sons of Jacob." And just as critics claim, there ARE two separate creation accounts in Genesis divided by Gen 2:4. The second is part of Adam's account while the first ends with the slightly different phrase, "These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created." Since the first section, Gen 1:1-2:4a, tells of events prior to the existence of any witness to record them, logically God Himself must either have written this section directly or specifically revealed it to Adam, and another alleged "mistake" is resolved.

APPENDICES: Finally there are almost a hundred pages of useful appendices, addressing specific topics. To me the most interesting were the "Global Processes Indicating Recent Creation", which details a large number of worldwide natural processes whose rates are currently known yet which cannot possibly be reconciled with a 4.6 billion year old earth, and the Chronology of the Patriarchs in Genesis, based on the lists in Gen 5 and 11, which reveals some astonishing overlaps:

Adam could have known all the pre-flood patriarchs except Noah and Shem.
Noah could have known all the pre-flood patriarchs except Adam and Seth.
Noah and Shem could have known Abraham.
Shem could have known Isaac and Jacob.

Note: This Bible was published in several different formats from hardback to genuine leather at several different prices so pick the one that fits your budget. About the only recommendation I'd make is to get a "thumbed" edition; having tried thumb indexes once, I'd never go back!

Note: At one time there was an advantage to purchasing direct from ICR because they would include a PC version on CDROM for free, but now that the complete Bible and Notes are available online at their website, they have apparently stopped the practice. After all if you can go on the Internet anytime you want to search it, why fill up your hard disk with it?

Note: One downside to all these annotations is that in many places, in Genesis and Revelation in particular, the notes take up more of the page than the Bible verses do. For study this causes no difficulties, but for reading along this WILL result in a lot more page flipping for you than for the rest of the congregation. It isn't quite, "In (flip) the (flip) beginning (flip) God..." but the first two pages contain Gen 1:1-2 and nothing else but notes!

Note: A new edition has recently been published as The Henry Morris Study Bible, the change worth noting being a conscious effort to correct the typos in this edition.

Amazing! Now my main Study Bible!

These days it seems few people prefer the King James Version. But is seems to be a fact that the best Bible scholars are the ones that grew up back in the day reading and memorizing the King James. You may prefer the NIV for casual reading, but please don't miss out on this easy to understand, conservative, wonderful Study Bible just because it's the KJV! If you love the Word of God, You will love this Bible! Check out this example:

Genesis 16:7 (from the story of Hagar) "And the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur."

Here is what Dr. Morris says about this verse: "16:7 angel of the LORD. This is the first specific reference to angels in Scripture (though angels are called the "sons of God" in 6:2). Here it is "the angel of the LORD [Jehovah]," specifically identified ( 16:13) as Jehovah Himself. The term "the angel of the LORD," therefore, seems often to refer to Christ Himself in a theophany."

One of the world's greatest actors presents the Bible

The KJV of the Bible needs no endorsement from me. When selecting an audio book you need to evaluate the actor who does the reading, and Roscoe Lee Browne is one of the best actors alive. He also has one of the most beautiful voices in his profession, which makes all his books on tape treats worth seeking out. He isn't as widely known as he deserves to be, but you may recall some of his work. He narrated the film Babe and provided the voice of the Kingpin in the excellent animated Spiderman TV series which recently completed its run. Amazon also sells an audio Old Testament for which Browne recorded Exodus, Jeremiah, Lamentations and Jonah.

Very pleased with the product.

Love Mr. Browne's voice. There is a bit of music in the background but it's not annoying. Wish he'd have slowed down a bit in some places and emphasized some of the verses or paused a bit longer before going on to the next chapter, but again overall, this is a fantastic value and just what I wanted.

PreSchool-Grade 2-"I'm a teeny tiny baby and I know how to get anything I want." So begins an infant's hilarious narration of his many needs and pleasures. His loving family gladly complies with his desire to be jiggled, tickled, patted, burped, etc. After getting a tour of the apartment in the wee hours of the morning, he enjoys the outdoor life in the parks and playgrounds of Brooklyn, New York, along with many other places around town where Mom, Dad, and Grandma have to stop. Although he appreciates compliments and questions from the new people he meets, he takes exception to the big kid who comments on his lack of hair. A highlight is his list of when he prefers to nurse. The final series of illustrations shows his groggy mom carrying him (screaming) to the bathroom mirror, where he becomes progressively calmer and finally smiles at his reflection. Everyone who has had a baby in the family will respond to the gentle humor in Schwartz's gouache paintings. They invite readers into this child's secure and stimulating world, where responsibility for his care is shared by both parents. An excellent introduction for expectant siblings-and parents.

Ages 3-6. What a charmer! Anyone who's ever had a baby around the house (or been one, for that matter) will respond to this. The straightforward text begins, I'm a teeny tiny baby, and goes on to describe the likes and dislikes, wants and doesn't wants of the sweet, little dictator who's running the show. The charm of the words comes from their matter-of-factness (I like to be exclaimed over and oohed over and ahhhed over or changed or fed), but the words also serve as a springboard for Schwartz' wonderful artwork, which amplifies all the goings-on. For instance, when Baby discourses on his predilection for transportationSometimes I want to ride in my Snugli or in my stroller or in a car or a bus or my swing or my sling or my other Snuglithe artwork is six cameos, set against a wide expanse of white, showing a remarkably sanguine baby enjoying his various modes of conveyance. There is also delightful full-page art, such as the picture of the big kid (five or six years old, maybe) who points out the baby has no hair (which I didn't appreciate). This is more than clever, however. Schwartz realistically captures the altered relationship between Mom and Dad, the feeling of being at the very beginning of your life, and, of course, the head-over-heels devotion the world accords to teeny, tiny babies. This is a must-have book for attachment parenting families expecting a sibling! It really helped my 4 and 2-year olds understand what a baby needs, and helped me remember that we've all been there before. Gently humorous, very baby-centered. If only a baby could talk! This book protrays the life of an infant as seen through his eyes. It is humorous, sweet and I appreciated the reference in the beautiful illustrations to breastfeeding and attachment-carrying with the sling and Snugli. A new "must have" for baby shower gifts!

This book is chocked full of information and summaries on explorers through the ages, beginning with the Vikings and moving through Lewis and Clark. Highly recommended for children who need to write 5th grade level reports but don't have grade level reading skills. Plenty of pictures, maps, and helpful illustrations without making it simplistic. Highly recommended for elementary classrooms.

Brightly colored torn-paper collages fill appealing double-page illustrations portraying Jessie increasingly laden down with everyone else's idea of the perfect addition to her outfit. Finally, shedding all her mismatched apparel, she tactfully speaks her mind: "You're all so kind that I just hate to be mean, but please, would one of you buy me some jeans?" Grandpa grants her wish and Jessie zooms off on her skateboard, in her new jeans, happily unencumbered. Gosh, I love a good cumulative tale, don't you?

A cumulative tale is one of those fun stories that builds on itself, one element at a time - like, as other commenters noted, "The House that Jack Built".

In this case, every member of the family runs to get a girl another article of clothing to "Go with the shoes from grandpa", until eventually she asks them nicely if they can just get her a pair of jeans instead.

The only trouble I have with this book (and it's minor, really), is that it's written with Australian English in mind. Which means that to my American voice, some of the rhymes (laugh and scarf; blouse and "ribons and bows") just don't work, and it messes up the flow.

If it weren't for that quibble, I wouldn't have a problem at all. The book rocks.

a story that builds on itself...

... in the same manner as "The House That Jack Built." Great fun to read aloud. Grandpa kicks off the plot by buying Jesse a pair of shoes, which of course, need a pair of socks to go with them...and soon the whole extended family is pitching in to buy something "to go with the shoes from Grandpa." Nice, warm illustrations and the rollicking text combine to make a very pleasant reading experience. Enjoy!

The study materials are very good. However, the content in the DVD is for the most part the same information in the book. Therefore having the book really isn't necessary. The study is being received by participants very well. Max's studies are always excellent and this is a good example.

A BASIC Classic

I don't know what it was that really brought this book back to my mind. I remember checking it out from the school library when I was in fifth grade, and I loved it. I had played a lot of old retro computer games on my dad's computer -- games like Colossal Cave by William Crowther and Don Woods, and the slew of Adventure International titles. These to me were the ultimate sort of adventure game. It was like reading a CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE book, only you got to actually play it and explore and find treasures. I loved it.

I bought a used copy of HOW TO CREATE ADVENTURE GAMES and immediately fell back in love with it. Sure, these sorts of games are out-dated with Xbox and the Wii, but, there is just something about a text adventure game that nothing can really beat. This book goes through a sample game, which isn't half-bad, teaching you how to create your own adventure games. It really goes through and explains a ton of different sections, from how to set up maps and objects, to getting nitty gritty with programming the BASIC subroutines. It's all fairly easily read, and with a basic knowledge of programming, most anyone can catch on and get going.

The whole reason to have this book though is to get the Adventure Game Skeleton in Appendix B. Christopher Lampton has given the reader a great resource -- you can go in and literally plug in your own map, objects, verb routines, and you can have a working adventure game really quickly. And with the bits of help in the chapters explaining how to add in your own commands, you're pretty much set to go.

Definitely a great title for those who grew up -- like me -- on old-school adventure games.
