This series of books is the best thing since sliced bread. My grandson, who has dyslexia, has this in his homeschool program. Since it is cleverly illustrated, it impresses on his mind easily. The style is refreshing and interesting for the teacher as well. I highly recommend this series to anyone who want to create a love of history in a childs heart.

Excellent deal for the price and features.

About the book product and not the translation: The print is nice and large and keeps the Bible at a standard size. The pages have some tracing/bleed through but may not be an issue for some like myself. The two column, verse numbered format has a middle reference and translation column that does allow some space for limited marking along with the narrow margins that you can actually see on all sides. Each book has an introduction/background, and each page has subject headings. The book's front pages are thicker than the text pages and consist of pages for Presentation, Church Record, Wedding, Family Tree, Children, Grandchildren, and Death Records. You would definitely only want to use an archival pen to limit bleed through. (my pic includes my archival pen so you can see how wide the actual outside margin is). The pages were stuck together when I received it but that does not bother me for the price and since I intend to read/turn through all of them anyways :-). The cover is definitely not leather but the book does seem to lay open well on flat surfaces which is probably best to prolong the life of the cover. All in all I think this is an excellent Bible for the price if you are looking for this version with these features.

Kindle Edition: Extremely Poor Navigation Design

This review is for the Kindle version of the Holy Bible, New King James Version (by Thomas Nelson Publishers). I have good news and bad news. The good news is that this is a Bible, written in clear English. The bad news is that its digital navigation was apparently designed by Satan. Did it not occur to anyone that a Table of Contents that (on the Kindle's very lowest font-size) is 75 pages long is just dumb? This is the *Bible* that is being presented, people! Make an effort! If I were to sit down and ponder how to most efficiently frustrate readers, I do not think I could have come up with a better -- that is, worse -- navigation-design -- or lack of design -- than the one that was adopted here.

Poor quality construction, so dissapointed

Of course the Word of God is always 5 stars, but this Bible left so much to be desired.

The cover is just awful and so, so cheap.
It arrived with cover damage and within a day began to come apart.

I purchased this item for my son who needs large print to read, and he was so excited to finally have God's Word in a manageable size.
This made the cheap construction even more upsetting to me.

I missed the return window, so I guess it will be our backup Bible. I ended up replacing this one with a higher quality one for my son.

I have read a lot of books on prayer and the "book" Before Amen rocks for anyone, beginner, advanced, new Christian, long time Christian, prayer warrior, just learning how to pray or want to pray better. Bought it as a gift for my best friend; she loooooovvves it!! I had meant to buy the book NOT the study guide; oops; but I grabbed the book at a local book store when I realized my mistake and she loves them both so much; she liked the study guide so she could make notes and what-not without having to do it inside the book, thus allowing her to share the book with others. She said she was done with it in like 2 days and was ready to lend it to others. If your friend or relative or you are into this author and this material; this is for you.

Be mindful

I just finished "Another Jesus" Calling by Warren B. Smith -- very enlightening and helps you to put a finger on why Sarah Young's books are somewhat disturbing. I really liked them at first as they are so comforting. But as time went on, I realized something just wasn't right - there is much truth in them, but there are untruths and unscriptural ideas as well.

I am also very disturbed that the publishers (Thomas Nelson) changed the original introduction that Sarah Young wrote, where she said she "had been inspired to receive personal messages from "Jesus" after reading a book called God Calling." ("God Calling" is much used in the New Age community.) As this was controversial, the author and the publisher changed later editions to refer to "The Secret of the Abiding Presence" by Andrew Murray. That is very misleading and unethical!! (If you go to Amazon Books and search on "Jesus Calling for God Calling", it is still there!)

It is so easy to get comfortable and forget 1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour..." And the Bible also warns us to test the spirits (1 John 4:1).

It would be great to live in a world with no sorrow ,no pain, no tears and no fears! We all can live in Heaven by believing in Jesus as our Messiah who takes our sins away and gives us eternal life with him in Paradise . Until this day comes we can spend time daily with Jesus in Sarah's wonderful book "Jesus Calling". Sarah weaves verses from the Bible into her suggested conversations we can have daily with Jesus. Jesus is always with us and wants to help and guide us through the times of trouble as well as the times of Joy. Try this book and you will find the peace in his presence! We can choose Jesus or Satan and Heaven or Hell for eternity. If you are unsure of your faith read this book in a quiet place. See how much better your life on earth can be with Jesus as your guide. Jesus Calling devotional

This is my FAVORITE devotional of ALL time !! BUT get one like this--the "large print" one with this scriptures already printed on each page-- SO much easier and nicer to have them right in front of you instead of having to look them up in the Bible. I have given at least 10-12 of these as gifts- to "church and non church people "-- the devotional bless EVERYONE and can be used as quite a "witness tool" of the Lord's love and provision for all of us. I always have 1 or 2 in my "gift box" ready to give away. This one is a beautiful shade of lavender - nice for girls/ladies-- but also comes in tan color for others.

About the Author
Dr. Ronald Youngblood is a graduate of Valparaiso University (BA), Fuller Theological Seminary (BD), and the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning (PhD). He has served as professor of Old Testament at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Wheaton Graduate School, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Bethel Seminary in San Diego, and is currently serving in the same capacity at International College and Graduate School in Honolulu. He is an associate editor of the NIV Study Bible; author of 1 and 2 Samuel in the Expositor's Bible Commentary series; and a co-translator and co-editor of the Holy Bible, New International Version. He has also edited and/or written ten other volumes, including Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Dictionary, for which he was awarded the Gold Medallion Book Award by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. He serves as chairman of the board of directors of International Bible Society and frequently engages in preaching and teaching ministries at home?

F.F. (Frederick Fyvie)Bruce was born in October the 12th, 1910, in Elgin (Scotland), to a Brethren Assemblies family. His father was an itinerant preacher for the Assemblies. F.F. was baptized and accepted as a member of his local congregation in September 1928. He remained loyal to his denomination for the rest of his life. “Through my own experience with the Brethren, I can say they are the ideal place where a lay theologian can serve the Church with his gifts” (Restrospect, p. 285).

As a lover of the Biblie and of the classical languages, when he was only 10 years old, he started simultaneous studies in Greek and Latin. F.F. was admitted to Aberdeen University in October 1928. He studied also in University of Cambridge (England, 1932-34) and in the University of Vienna (Austria, 1934-35), studying in preparation for his Graduation and Doctoral degree, excelling in both.

Bruce taught Greek in the Universities of Edinburgh (1935-38) and Leeds (1938-47). Afterwards, he taught Bible History and Literature in the University of Sheffield (1947-59) followed by Bible Criticism and Exegesis in the University of Manchester (1959-78).

He lectured in prestigious universities all around the world: Marburg (Germany), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Auckland (New Zealand), and Makerere (Uganda). He also lectured in numerous Theological Seminaries, among them the Calvin Seminary, in Grand Rapids (U.S.A.) and the Union Seminary, in New York City (U.S.A.).

He was voted President by the prestigious Societies of Old Testament Studies and New Testament Studies.

F.F. Bruce wrote some 50 books, plus several thousand articles, essays and reviews. His masterpiece The Acts of the Apostles: The Greek Text with Introduction and Commentary (1951) marked for the evangelical world the beginning of a new era in Bible study, being seriously considered by the Academia. In spite of never having made formal studies in Theology, he was an extraordinary reader of the subject and the Aberdeen University granted him in 1957 a Doctor Honoris Causa degree in Divinities.

Great Resource for Home Bible Studies

I love reading the Bible.

Even more than reading it - I love when I find that little treasure that expands it to life. Like the first time you go to the zoo and see how massive the elephants are or how the giraffes would be great at playing basketball if they had hands. That is how I feel when I look up a word in its original text like Hebrew or Greek, a whole new life opens up to me.

I was stoked when I got a chance to review the Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary: New and Enhanced Edition.

At first it looked like a huge book that would be nice to add to a shelf for decoration, which will also be an asset. But, then we opened it.

I love that it is full color! Full of wonderful photographs that even the kids will be excited to look up a word or a place out of their Bible lessons. Who doesn't like seeing photographs of things that were pertinent to what you are studying? It makes it come alive! I did see a review that mentioned some nudity. I would highly suggest looking at the dictionary beside your children - I didn't see any photos that were provoking (I could have missed them) but each family is different and have to make decisions based on their own convictions.

If one has never studied the Bible before, it gives you an easy plan called Five Easy Better Bible Study Steps using the Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary. This would be great for those high school students who might need another way to learn.

Then there is the maps. Gorgeous! Full of color and great for researching Biblical times.

I use maps every time we study something new or need to go over where something happened in the Bible. It just makes sense to show the students or myself when and where a story took place.

Overall, I would highly recommend this Great Resource for Home Bible Studies.

As a visual learner, I appreciate the many pictures, charts and maps on this Bible dictionary. There are so many illustrations here that can help readers get a better grasp of the history, timeline, as well as differences between the concepts being explained.

I love that they included 5 Easy Steps to Better Bible Study using Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary. I admit at first I just read the passages then referred to the Bible dictionary when there are terms or words I want to check. But the 5 steps definitely helped me learn how I can use this Bible dictionary in my everyday reading so I can understand the Bible verses on a deeper level. For the entries of each book of the Bible, you will find a helpful study and teaching outline which helps you organize each book according to theme or event.

But what I loved the most about this Bible dictionary are the first few pages where they presented a Visual Survey of the Bible from the Old to the New Testament. There’s also a History of the World and a History of Israel (the People, the Land, the Kingdom, the Remnant). It also shows charts on the Poetic Books, the Prophetic Books, the Life of Christ, History of the Early Church, Writings of the Early Church, and Themes of the New Testament Letters.

This is only a Bible dictionary and not a commentary, so not all entries are discussed in depth. I still think it’ll be nice to have a Bible commentary in addition to a Bible dictionary. But this will do for now since I’m only just really doing weekly devotions with a small group at church, and if a difficult question is raised, I can always park that question and consult our Pastor so he can answer in detail.

All in all, I think this is a good Bible dictionary. This is going to be especially helpful for me as I go through our church’s School of Leadership where we discuss doctrinal truths. I can use this to complement our discussions in class, and I’ll have something to refer to or check should I want more information.

Grade 1-4-- In ancient times, according to this Plains Indian myth, crows were white. Crow Chief was so good at warning buffalo when hunters were near, that their hunts failed and the humans went hungry. In answer to the people's prayers, a savior named Falling Star comes to them. He creates a ritual that brings him close to the buffalo spirits, allowing him to catch Crow Chief. The hunters are now successful, and the crow's punishment is to watch the feast, tied to the tipi poles, where the smoke of the cooking fire turns his feathers black with soot. Falling Star eventually frees him, with the admonition that, ``The Creator told us to share and live like relatives together.'' Goble's familiar, stylish, ink-and-watercolor designs evoke, rather than reproduce, Plains art. The palette is intense and varied, the figures stylized but not static. Pleasing pictures, a worthy message, and a simple story set in clear, large type combine to make this one of Goble's most attractive books to date. --Patricia Dooley, University of Washington, Seattle

Still another handsomely presented Native American tale from the prolific Caldecott medalist. A careful introductory note describes it as ``one of the many wonderful triumphs of Falling Star, the Savior,'' probably originating as an explanation for the customs and failures of the buffalo hunt; it also explains why crows are black. One ambitious crow repeatedly warns the buffaloes when hunters are coming; the children cry with hunger until, in response to the women's prayers, Falling Star arrives to show the men how to disguise themselves as buffaloes for the hunt. He also catches the wicked crow and, refusing to kill him, ties him to the tipi poles, where he must sit blackening his feathers in the smoke and smelling the cooking aromas and until he too knows hunger. Goble tells the story with his usual simplicity and verve; the illustrations, in his signature style, kindle new admiration with their decorative repetitions (especially of the buffalo and the crows), entire landscapes suggested by a few carefully placed silhouettes, and the extraordinarily subtle use of bright colors, including many different reds. The Lesson of Sharing the Earth

The crow chief, a brilliantly white bird, is responsible for a famine among human beings. The humans respond with HOPE and their hope is rewarded by CHANGE, as the crow chief is compelled to learn a lesson of "community" and inter-relatedness, a lesson that results in turning his feathers a beautiful jet black.

The text of this book for young children is elegantly simple and warm in spirit, but as always, it's the stunning illustrations that make the book very special. Paul Goble does not base his drawings on any traditional Native American art, yet the drawings evoke the awe and grandeur of the Native American spirit at its purest. Goble's works belong in a museum, even if it's only the museum of your child's memory.
