A Caution to Parents - A Misrepresentation of Eve
By Gail W
I was very excited to see this book advertised. There is such a need for more depth in telling the stories of the women in the bible. The concept is great - very creative - and the book looks gorgeous. But after reading the preview story of Eve I chose not to buy the book for my granddaughters. Here's why.
The author writes in the opening that Eve "talked Adam into disobeying God". Where is that in the Bible? Nowhere! This statement misinterprets the text of Genesis 3. The text says simply that Eve ate of the fruit and handed it to her husband, who was there with her. Adam had been given a direct instruction from God not to eat, while Eve heard it secondhand from Adam. So while Eve was deceived by the serpent, Adam sinned knowingly. To say that Eve talked Adam into disobeying does a grave disservice to women, perpetuating the damaging view that Eve is to blame for all human brokenness. The book even goes on to say that Eve was scared about what God would do "when he saw the mess that she had made" - no mention of Adam or the serpent as contributing to that mess. I was quite surprised that this version made it past the editors. I would hope that the other stories reflect the text better, and I may eventually purchase the book as a resource and use the stories selectively. But as someone who runs a ministry advocating for women, I cannot endorse a book that gets this key passage so wrong. Readers who want to know more about why getting the story of Eve right should take a look at the book "Reclaiming Eve" by Suzanne Burden - or just Google Eve to see how this interpretation has been so damaging. I sincerely hope the author will consider revising this story in future editions, as I would dearly love to have a resource like this if the interpretation was corrected.

Great read for girls ages 6-12
By ltsteelswife
Why not join Hope, Gracie, Glory, Faith, and Honor and they go through the Bible and see why they can be brave too. Women in the Bible were brave. God helped them become the strong, brave women that they were. Our girls can be that way too!
I am not a very brave person. I tend to hide behind my husband. But I have tried raising strong girls. I sometimes envy women I see with lots of bravery. I love Ruth and Esther's stories. Brave Girls shows you so many strong and brave women of the Bible. Some you might know and well, some you may not. But all the stories are written in a way that it is like the women are telling you their stories. This book is very easy to follow and great Mommy/daughter time.

The New Brave Girls Brand is a BIG Deal!
By Amazon Customer
I love books. My husband loves books. My kids love books. We are a book-loving family! But it's been awhile since I've been as excited as I am now about a new book series. Tommy Nelson just started publishing a line of books for girls, and takes "girl" to a whole new level.
Something that has become increasing important to me over the last couple of years, and especially since last year, is making sure that my girls know that it's okay to be strong, courageous, driven, leadership-minded women of the Lord. I really feel that all to often, the global-church puts women and girls in a box with what they can do and cannot do.
I have two little girls. I want them to learn to live boldly and bravely at a young age. God chose to make them girls for a special purpose. I want them to embrace that!
And that's why I'm REALLY excited about this new brand called, Brave Girls, from Tommy Nelson. They have developed five characters - all girls! - to help guide young girls through the Bible and meet some of the tough and courageous women in it. In Brave Girls Bible Stories, the five girls take us on a journey to meet 30 women in the Bible and learn about their character. Each story opens with an introduction and closes with final thoughts from one of the five girls. The best part? Each of the girls are uniquely different, helping MY girls understand that embracing who they are is a gift from God!
I think this new Brave Girls brand is a big deal. It's a big deal because this kind of thinking has to start at an early age. In my opinion, Brave Girls Bible Stories is a must-have for parents of girls.
