Grade 4-6-Uniform, present-tense, "you are there" discussions. These titles are somewhat jovial in their portrayals of ghastly subject matters, downplaying the horrors of human sacrifice, for example. Cartoon characters are about to have a tree fall on them in Railroad and find frozen bodies in the water in Titanic. In Aztec Sacrifice, "you" are a captured warrior and end up having your heart cut out as an offering to the gods. Suggestions are made as to why a warrior would not be too scared, maybe because an herbal potion could make him feel drowsy and peaceful. Every spread offers a "Handy Hint" box. In Railroad, "you" are advised to "Steer clear of the saloons and casinos-." In Aztec Sacrifice, it is suggested that "you" make offers to your city's guardian god for protection. Of the three volumes, Aztec Sacrifice is the most gruesome and will therefore appeal to a certain clientele. Because of its ever-popular topic, Titanic will have no problem finding an audience. Because of its less-gory premise, Railroad might need to follow on the popularity of the other two titles. Heavily illustrated, colorful, and far from dull, these titles will have little trouble grabbing readers' interest.

Thoroughly enjoy this series

The books in this series manage to walk the delicate balance of being fun and humorous while still imparting a lot of knowledge to the reader. My three sons (8,7, and 5) couldn't put them down and neither could my husband and me. We homeschool and have encountered a lot of the topics in our history studies and were impressed by how much the books cover.
We also liked how gross/disturbing concepts were softened by the amusing illustrations of david Antram. Very impressive.
We plan to own them all.

Informative but fun and funny

This book is a part of the You Wouldn't Want to Be series of children's books, created by Salariya Book Company. Like all of the books in this series, this one has lots of brightly colored illustration and gobs of great, off-beat humor. The book presents the story of the R.M.S. Titanic, from her conception, through to her sinking on her maiden voyage.
This is a very good book, informative but in a fun and funny manner that makes the book a real joy to read. So, if you have an older child or young adult who wants to read a definitely not-dry book on the famous Titanic, then steer him or her to You Wouldn't Want to Sail on the Titanic...they'll thank you later!

This is my 6 year old nephew's favorite book on the Titanic -- and we've read many!! It's factual without being overly heavy or somber. It even gives some "helpful hints" that my nephew found humorous but I didn't feel was insensitive to the topic. This is a good introduction to the Titanic for younger children.
