Great reference book for beginners, as well as those who've been at dream work for a long time!

I originally bought this book back in the late 1970's. I'd already been working with dreams for 10+ years, and it helped me focus in on certain things that previously I couldn't make sense of.
Easy-to-use reference book... Key words are alphabetized for easy reference. It helps to use a thesaurus, as some words to describe what's in a dream may not be exactly the wording you might use.
If I had one dream reference book to use, this would be the one. It's a great starter book, and has been a great reference for me for years (I bought another copy not too long ago.)
This book can help you on your way to understanding your dreams and that of others. VERY easy to use!
I'd also recommend keeping a dream journal by the side of your bed, and before you do ANYTHING in the morning, write your dreams down that you can recall. The less movement, the better until you have it down. Sometimes it's a good idea to not move at all, play the dream back in your head, then write it down. The longer you wait, the fuzzier the details of any dream, and after a while, you may not recall even having a dream (although everyone does - several times a night!)

Don't bother

Dream interpretation is a subject I've always been fascinated with, so I was eager to read this book.
What a disappointment ... the first portion of the book is a lengthy, rambling, desultory text that goes on and on with no breaks (such as chapters, topics, etc). The author strings together numerous, unrelated examples of dreams .. some by well known historical people, others by unnamed anonymous individuals. What would have made an excellent one paragraph introduction to the topic, the author made into a never ending list (I read it on a Kindle, so I can't give you number of pages).
I had read a third of the book and there was still no progression to the book's topic of Dream Interpretation. That's when I found there is no table of contents because there are no chapters or sections in the book.
The beginning pages provide an alphabetic list of dream objects/subjects, along with associated page numbers, but these were meaningless on the Kindle. Additionally, the list is not linkable (you can't click on any of the words and jump there in the Kindle ... your only navigation is endlessly clicking the NEXT PAGE button, or making a wild guess on a numeric Kindle location.
Once I got to the actual list of dream imagery items, these items were presented very cut and dried, with only 2 or 3 lines of explanation for each item, with almost dictionary like descriptions. No hint of the idea of dream imagery's meanings being unique to the dreamer, or even any suggestion of variations in interpretation.
I have deleted the book off my Kindle. I do not feel the author has any knowledge of the subject; additionally, the quality of writing is very poor ... much like one might find in a high schooler's term paper. I gave it one star only because giving it zero stars was not an option with Amazon.

Miller's book is true to its subtitle: "What's in a Dream." He has catalogued (and cross-referenced) in alpabetical order probably about 10,000 things that may crop up in most people's dreams, but not all. Miller draws from Camille Flammariov's (1900) work especially Flammariov's "Unknown" for purpose and framework. The exact nature of where Miller's 10,000 dream interpretations-every single entry-come from is not clear. The assumption is that Miller has been able to tap into a universal reference on symbology with his higher self. Based on a small unrandom sample of dreams from personal experience and friends with follow-up, the accuracy of interpretation approaches the accuracy of prediction of daily astrological guidance in local newspapers. Beyond the possible rival factor of self-fulfilling prophecy, the accuracy depends on a person's point-of-view. The strength of the book is its symbolic database and proposed meanings as interesting points of discussion. For example, Miller's interpretation of dreaming about deer is generally favorable, denoting deep friendships or a quiet life. While killing a deer in your dream is interpreted as being harrassed by your enemies. Farmers and business people who dream of hunting deer should be warned that failure will be forthcoming in their ventures. My bias or tendency is for people to self-interpret symbols using their own local or personal meanings that they attach to objects in their dreams, so Miller's book fell short of my expectations.
