We need a parenting revolution!
Most parenting approaches end up encouraging children to ask the wrong questions about life: What’s in it for me? Are you going to pay me for that? What’s the minimum I need to do to get by?
But God’s Word gives us a better way to parent, one that builds strong internal motivation in children. When parents change the way they parent, kids change the way they live. This practical book explores a theology of internal motivation and then gives parents real-life solutions to equip their kids for life.
You’ll learn . . .
• how to parent in ways that build internal motivation so that kids don’t have to rely on you to get things done.
• the four promptings of the conscience and how to coordinate your parenting to take advantage of them.
• ways to energize your spiritual training with fun and creativity.
• how to help children respond to mistakes instead of blaming, defending, or justifying.
The greatest gift you can give your child is strong moral and spiritual development―this book shows you how. Every chapter includes practical examples of families applying the Bible to their current issues.

A must have parenting resource!
By RaisingSoldiers4Christ
I have been privileged and honored with the opportunity to be selected as part of the review teams for several parenting resources lately. If you would like to read other reviews, you can do so HERE and HERE. When I was shown the cover, title and background information for Motivate your Child I knew this was not just a review, rather a resource I needed in my own library!
This book was exactly what I was looking for! An excerpt from page 3 read, "Are you dressed? Did you eat breakfast?...Where are your shoes?...Dad and Mom realized that they were functioning as the conscience for each of their kids, prompting them forward each step of the way."
That is very real to our life when we have to get out of the house for co-op and other events. My oldest is 11 now and I want him to learn to get all that stuff together and be motivated on his own. Mornings with ADHD/Aspergers are hard extremely difficult! He will be fine an hour or so after he is awake, but morning hygiene, eating breakfast and getting out the door is HARD HARD HARD! I personally was thankful for this book and I could tell from the very beginning that it was going to be so helpful!
Shortly after the paragraph on page 3 from above, the authors state that moral development in children doesn't come from a psychology textbook. The moral development comes from the Bible.
At the end of Chapter 3 there is a quiz that you can take to see what areas of strength and weakness that your child has in his/her conscience. It is a very detailed quiz too! Make sure your totally forthright answering it, so you know where you need to start with your children.
"Responsibility is doing what you know you should do, even when you don't want to do it." Quote from Chapter 4
As adults we have to do the dishes, clean the toilets, and do the mounds of laundry even if we just do not want to do them. Kids need to learn that even if it isn't a task that they love, that they still have to complete the job and complete it correctly. This should start at a young age. For example a child who takes his pajamas off and leaves them laying on the floor of his bedroom. He needs to learn responsibility of picking them up and putting them either in the dirty cloths or away so he can wear them again. The book not only gives you issues like a child leaving pajamas on the floor, but it also gives solutions for kids of all ages! I don't know about you but sometimes I feel like I have ran out of ideas of ways to reach my kids heart strings. I want them to obey, but I also want to reach their heart and equip them in ways that will last for life.
I loved all the chapters but I must say I was blown away by Chapter 19.
"The Solution doesn't begin at the White House; the solution begins at my house."
It is so important to help children connect the heartstrings to the Bible. In order for the Bible to do its work in the hearts of children, it's important to expose them to it in ways they can understand. The word of God is there to transfer it to the minds and hearts of the people, which results in a lifestyle of practical service to him. My oldest has an amazing gift for memorizing scripture. However, his break down comes from APPLYING that to his life. He is VERY VERY VERY well spoken about what the Bible says and can have a conversation about it with anyone, including Pastors. However, connecting it has been a challenge for him, so I was so excited to see this chapter!
I loves this book and think that this is a wonderful resource for all parents to have! I give this book a 5/5. If you want a copy you can get yours below:

Motivating me to motivate my child.
By Amazon Customer
I was able to preview this book before it was released, free of charge. Generally speaking, parenting books leave me feeling overwhelmed and guilty for all the things I'm doing "wrong" according to the authors. In Motivate Your Child, I can see clearly that there are things I've been doing wrong, but the guilt is out of the picture. My child is not self motivated, he isn't always kind to his little brother and he often has a negative, ungrateful attitude. In Motivate Your Child, I can see that we just haven't been connecting all the dots between our faith and our parenting. I love the examples they provide showing the relevance of things like the conscience and honesty throughout scripture because they remind me that there really is no issue I'm dealing with now that has not been an issue since sin came into the world.
Though I have been a Christian for many years, I'm still maturing and I readily admit that parenting has not always come easily or naturally to me. I feel that this book is helping me to grow as both a believer and a parent because, as I stated earlier, I'm better able to "connect the dots" between some issues of faith, moral development and behavior that I didn't see as being practically related. My son's difficulty following directions is connected to something much deeper than letting him watch too much tv (for example). It's connected to his growing conscience and learning to think about his actions and feel good about them in his heart. I love the useful tips provided, like helpful verses to memorize and role playing exercises to practice good choices. The suggestions on how to use consequences are also very helpful. One of the most useful insights for me is the reminder to use grace in correction and tell my kids to "go, try again" when they've made a bad choice. I've been too harsh, thinking that this was how they would know that I "meant business." It's all about extending the same grace, love and patience with them that God shows to us as adults who surely should know better, haha.
This book is helping to motivate me as a mom (and child of God) so that I can motivate my child.
I do plan to buy a paper copy of this book. I don't enjoy reading books digitally where it would be helpful to go back to refer to something I read previously.
