I bought it because of all the good reviews. I liked the size and lamination but, most importantly, we couldn't rely on it since there were not enough road details. It was not useful at all during our week in Santa Fe. I would not recommend it.

A MUST for any Motorcyclist

Rand McNally has always made excellent road maps and travel atlases. But I needed something to be used during my motorcycle trips that would stand up to inclement weather without being damaged. I will say I love these plastic coated maps. They fold up really easily, don't get all tangled because of the wind and are very clear and bright. You can even use a dry-erase marker to highlight areas of interests or routes. They cost a little more and are not extremely detailed, but for using them to route a motorcycle trip and having them easy to grab, use and put away even in wet conditions is perfect. I use a GPS, but I still carry maps every time I ride. I own one of these maps for every Western State and every state I plan on visiting.

These are great.

Great book for curious kids

I have a precocious 4 year old who loves to read books about how things work. I think this book is probably meant for 1st-3rd graders, but obviously younger kids can enjoy it too. My son was excited when I told him the title and has had so much fun reading about all the different topics in the book. This is a great book for curious kids.

What makes you cough, sneeze, burp, hiccup, blink, yawn, swe

All of these common bodily actions are involuntary, but necessary. The human body is designed to cough, sneeze, burp, etc. as it needs to help the body function better. The author explains why a person performs each action and what is happening inside the body when the aciton occurs. The illustrations help the reader identify what is happening when these bodily actions take place.
This text is not enough for most reports but would stimulate the reader to read further and the author has anticipated this by including additional books, organizations, and web sites. The web sites checked out and gave helpful information. Students in grades 2 -5 should be able to enjoy and learn from this text.

good non fiction for elementary reader

my 9 & 10 yr old 4th grade daughter's school reading contract required her to read a specific # of both fiction & non fiction bks @ her particular reading level, & then pass Accelerated Reader (AR) tests on vocabulary & content; most girls gravitate naturally toward fiction & are less drawn to non fiction; this is true w/my daughter; libraries @ both elementary schools she attended PreK - 4th grade had much wider fiction selections than non fiction; aside from biographies, non fiction tended to be dry science & nature topics that were less than captivating; biography series for kids abound & plenty are good, but multiple series cover the same basic group of people; I found the bk whilst searching for more unique non fiction; this was a welcome change, as it entertained & informed, rather than put us to sleep; she put it w/her other kid reference bks on human body & has referred to it often; very educational in an age when germs are hot topic; we have another title in this series, which is also good; my guess is the whole series would be of equal quality; inexpensive paperbacks, they are short & easy to read, but informative & kid/lay person friendly; subject matter would appeal to both girls & boys of elementary school age

I did not expect such a simple topic to make such a lasting impact. My favorite line in the book was to greet everyday with a forgiving spirit. Another great line was success follows those who are humble. This book will remain in my favorites library for various rereads. Bravo to Andy for his action plan version of the Travelers Gift.

best footnotes for the believer

The Morris footnotes are as conservative as Schofield's, but much easier to read and understand, and less dispensational. Neither I nor my minister and missionary friends can fault the doctrinal position of Morris, who believes that the Creator of the universe was able to state exactly what He meant, and able likewise to preserve His word for us today. Morris, the author of the standard text on creation, offers scientific background to dispense with the modern myth of evolution, enabling those who believe God rather than the humanistic fantasies of Darwin ample and irrefutable arguments for God's truth. A fine gift or presentation Bible, I received mine from my church when I trusted Christ as Savior. One of my missionary friends has won many souls to the Lord with his copy - may God grant you and I the grace to do the same with ours! There is no version of the Scripture that I can recommend more highly, especially now that the John R. Rice reference Bible seems no longer available. Signed, a redeemed sinner

Gr 5-8-This concise overview begins with short descriptions of typical sleep patterns, the stages of sleep, and what happens in the human body during them. A chapter on sleep deprivation follows. The chapter on disorders, such as sleepwalking and sleep apnea, includes preventive measures and treatments. Relaxation techniques such as meditation are described in sufficient detail. The final chapter offers methods of guiding, remembering, and interpreting one's dreams. A short "Dream Encyclopedia" gives suggestions for understanding the symbolism of events and objects common in dreams. "To Find Out More" has a useful list of organizations and authoritative online sites. While easy to comprehend, some statements are oversimplified. For instance, in the description of REM sleep, the text states that eye movements are the eyes watching dream action and sounds "projected, in a way, on your eyelids" by the brain. Although now dated in some aspects, Alvin and Virginia Silverstein's work of the same name (HarperCollins, 1974) is considerably more detailed in describing animal and human sleep research techniques and conclusions, but it does not include guides to dream interpretation.

The following chapters touch on sleep disorders and then briefly discuss dreams, including tips for remembering and analyzing them. Presented in a lackluster format with a few black-and-white diagrams and photographs, the information is best suited for supporting reports on sleep biology rather than answering readers' individual questions; sections on the treatment of sleep disorders will particularly disappoint readers seeking personal help. But McPhee offers satisfactory curricular support, and teens will have fun with the dream dictionary at book's end. A glossary and helpful resources, including Web sites, conclude. Gillian Engberg

I wanted to achieve two goals in compiling this set of carols: that there would be plenty of them and that they would be easily playable for most trombonists - on cold December nights. With the help of my good friend, Steve Sample, I believe we have succeeded. So take the book out this Christmas season and have fun. And please "swing" on Steve's arrangements.

Grade 4-7--In a now-familiar conversational style, Hyde and Forsyth examine the causes, symptoms, and treatment of diabetes. After a brief explanation of the types of the disease and how insulin enables glucose to enter the cells of the body, the authors present several case studies of young people who have been diagnosed with the condition. In a reassuring tone, they inform readers that diabetes is not caused by eating too much sugar, and that with proper treatment and diet it can be controlled. Later chapters include information on new treatments (stem cells, pancreas transplants, islet transplants) and improvements in insulin delivery (pens and pumps). Perhaps the most salient feature of this book, however, is the constant reminder of the importance of checking one's blood sugar often and of taking the necessary precautions to eat right and exercise.
